From famous movie stars to infamous musicians, the list of the celebrities we have lost in 2011 features some of the biggest names in the show industry of this century and the past one.
Harry Morgan – natural causes. The M*A*S*H actor passed away at his home in Los Angeles, of natural causes. He was 96 years old.
Ken Russell – natural causes. The 84-year-old British movie director passed away in late November.
Frances Bay – pneumonia. Actress Frances Bay, best known for her role in "Seinfeld", as "Jerry’s nana", died in Los Angeles, shortly after being admitted to hospital for pneumonia. The actress, who also starred in “Happy Gilmore”, was 92 years old.
Andy Whitfield - non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” star lost the battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 39. Months before his death he had to withdraw from the TV series, as he could no longer keep up. He died in Sydney, Australia.
Bubba Smith – unknown causes. The former NFL player and “Police Academy” star died at his home in Los Angeles, at the age of 66, in early August. Although the authorities believe he died from natural causes, no official announcement regarding the cause of death has been made yet. After retiring from NFL, the 6 foot 7 Smith joined the recruits in the “Police Academy” movie franchise.
Peter Falk – unknown causes. The “Columbo” star died at the age of 83, on June 24. It was known that the actor suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for years. At the time of his death, he was at his Beverly Hills home.
Elizabeth Taylor – heart failure. The Hollywood icon died at the age of 79 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She was admitted there for weeks when her heart gave out. Taylor famously married eight times and dedicated her life to acting and charity. In the last years of her life she dedicated a lot of time to the AIDS causes.
