Celebrities health battles in 2011

Last year, several celebrities have learned they have a disease or have battled a serious health condition. Here are the 2011 celebrities’ health battles, presented by Health.com

Daniel Radcliffe – alcohol addiction. Harry Potter fans were crushed to find out that their favorite star of the decade is battling his own demons in the real life. The actor opened up about his struggle with an alcohol addiction in July. He confessed that he did not feel good being so famous, which made him drink to be able to cope with his status.

Catherine Zeta-Jones – BPD. The gorgeous Hollywood actress had a horrendous bipolar crisis last year, as a result of the high stress level caused by her husband’s battle with throat cancer. Bipolar disorder comes in mild or more severe forms, all characterized by episodes of mania followed by episodes of depression.

Giuliana Rancic – breast cancer. The E! News host and Fashion Police co-host recently underwent a double mastectomy and a breast reconstruction surgery and is already feeling better. Rancic announced she was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier, in the fall of 2011, and since then, the TV host fought to raise awareness on the disease and encouraged women to go for a routine check-up even if they don’t think there is anything wrong with them ( just as she did).

Missy Elliot – Graves’ disease. The music star was diagnosed in 2008 and since then, she's been battling the autoimmune disorder, that leads to the overactivity of the thyroid gland. After turning to medication and stabilizing her health state, Missy Elliot confessed that she can now maintain the balance of her health only through exercise and a proper diet.

Kim Kardashian – psoriasis. The 31-year-old reality star has learned last year that she inherited psoriasis from her mother. The problem was discussed during an episode of her reality show, "Kourtney and Kim Take NY" When she first found out about it, Kim was devastated. “My career is doing ad campaigns and swimsuit photo shoots”. So you can imagine the pressure of having a perfect skin.

Glen Campbell – Alzheimer’s disease. The Grammy-winning singer announced in July 2011 that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. While still engaging in a last tour, the 75-year-old music legend wanted to share the disease news with his fans, in order to raise awareness on it.
